WATCH: Mac Jones accomplishes career first with 75-yard TD strike originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston

Who said Mac Jones couldn’t throw the ball downfield?

With his New England Patriots trailing the Dallas Cowboys by five points late in the fourth quarter, the rookie quarterback uncorked a deep ball to wide receiver Kendrick Bourne, who got behind the defense for a 75-yard touchdown.

Jones completed a two-point conversion to Jakobi Meyers to give the Patriots a 29-26 lead, stunning a Cowboys team that had just taken the lead on a Trevon Diggs pick-six moments earlier.

Jones has developed a reputation as a conservative NFL quarterback, but his bomb to Bourne might change that. The 75-yard strike was the longest of Jones’ young NFL career by more than 35 yards and the longest by a New England QB in four seasons.

Not bad for a QB who entered the game averaging just 9.2 yards per completion.

The Cowboys later forced overtime on a Greg Zuerlein field goal, so Jones will have the opportunity to play hero at Gillette Stadium.
