Kevin Lee vs Diego Sanchez preview

The Eagle FC 46 card will be headlined by a super lightweight fight between former UFC lightweight title contender Kevin Lee and MMA legend Diego Sanchez.

Kevin Lee contested for the interim UFC lightweight championship against Tony Ferguson, but fell short when Tony submitted him via triangle choke. His record inside the UFC octagon is 9 wins and 7 losses.

Once tipped as a bright young prospect, Lee has gone through a lot in terms of weight class change, tough competition, team switches and payment war with the UFC.

Sanchez on the other hand has fought the who’s who of the UFC roaster and delivered some of the most exciting fights inside the octagon. His record inside the UFC stands at 18 wins and 13 losses, with notable wins against Jim Miller, Clay Guida and Nick Diaz.

Lee has to utilize his up to par wrestling skills to try and control the fight on the ground. He can even manage to land some damage through his underrated ground and pound skills on Sanchez.

However, he needs to be careful with Sanchez’s slick submission skills. His path to victory would be to keep the fight in range, use his youth and speed advantage, and maintain octagon control. An element of surprise can work wonders for Lee, like in his fight against Gregor Gilespie.

Chopping down the front leg of Sanchez and utilizing body kick would pay dividends for the young fighter.

As for Sanchez, he needs to reach out for the hound inside him, that produced some of the most violent fights in UFC history. He needs to unwrap ‘The Nightmare’ that fans tuned into watch. Another key to victory for him would be to adopt a Mexican stance and get on Lee’s face.

He needs to put constant pressure on Lee, who is known to break when tormented. His cardio and jiu-jitsu can be his greatest weapon moving into this fight.
